Bwuh?

After much prodding from [livejournal.com profile] thebitterguy I finally got around to reading about Omega Flight. I never really got into Alpha Flight (that was [livejournal.com profile] dronon's bag) and didn't identify with them as being a Canadian team, but man, everything about the new title is botched. It's quite impressive. I think the equivalent would be rebooting the Avengers with Batroc in charge. And renaming them Super Al-Qaeda. And then *not* playing that for laughs.

Maybe renaming the Avengers the Masters of Evil would be more appropriate and slightly less charged.

The first issue doesn't even feature the Americans

Masters of Evil doesn't sound clumsy enough. Besides, if you can't laugh at Al-Qaeda, I ask you: Who *can* you laugh at?

Heh - dropped that bag long ago, thankfully. Now the comics are all in a box - I should throw them out or sell them for a pittance. I have no idea what Marvel has done with the teams or characters since; I gave up at AF issue 99 when the level of dreck finally overcame obsessive-compulsiveness ("A Half Million Aliens! A Dozen Avengers! 2 Scantily-clad Interstellar She-warriors!") - I was tempted to buy it once every ten issues afterwards for the mock factor. Utterly botching the potential of the series seems to have been the mainstay of whoever's worked on it! Oh well, at least they're being consistent.
