Because, most likely, lj had had a series of idiocy/malice incidents, and each one flares up and is really annoying, and then you get some sort of resolution, and you move on.
And at one point you just think - maybe my life would be nicer if I didn't have to keep putting up with lj doing something stupid again? And you move.
Personally, I've got my blog working on my own website (www.jcfiala.net) and set up a process that copies my blog posts here for my friends to find more easily. That way, I control my information, and also help to make my own website easier to find, since each post on lj links back to my site.
